YEAR 5 - INFORMATION FOR AUTUMN

Dear Year 5 family,

We had great fun last week. As part of Healthy schools week we went to Beypazari to find out more about local produce. We also went to the Gaggenau kitchen in Ankara and made muffins, soup, bread and eclairs. We had a great time making them and an even better time tasting them. In Maths we have been furthering our understanding of Calculating, measuring and understanding shape. We’ve been finding different ways to do multiplication and division. In Literacy we have been reading stories from other cultures to find out more about the writer’s craft. We even took a good story and made it better by adding WOW words, connectives and punctuation. In our Science topic ‘Changing State’ we consolidated our understanding of the water cycle with a fun video by Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Next week will be doing lots to do with Book Week and Maths Day. On Tuesday we will be going to a recording studio to record our stories from other cultures and all week people will be visiting us to share their favourite stories from other cultures. On Maths Day we will be competing against children from all over the world online. In Maths we will be looking more at multiplication and division and moving on to adding and subtraction. In Literacy we will be comparing stories from other cultures and revisiting punctuation in reported speech. In our Science topic we will be finding out more about gas – in particular the weight of air and in ICT we are starting to use data bases. In our Geography topic we will be looking at rivers.
