Suzanne opened the meeting by informing the committee that
the minutes from the previous meeting were being processed. She
thanked all who helped in the success of the Easter Egg Hunt.
Suzanne remarked about the success of today’s Turkish Day
celebrated at school, which was enjoyed by both, students and
teachers. “Short and sweet”, as Suzanne called it, is the type
of event that is most successful and should be recommended to
the next FPTA. The “Cheese and Wine Night” was cancelled, due to
consultation with the Treasurer and the anticipated lack of
support for the event due to recent examples. For example the
“Italian Night” event organized by FPTA, was very popular with
the students, but low in support from parents, that even some
pre-booked attendance were cancelled at the last minute, without
coming forward with payments. Although a success, the
numbers were too low to justify the cost and effort put in
organizing these types of events.
The Individual photo shoot went well. The class and school
photo shoot will happen on the 8th of May. Peter,
Stephanie and Zeldi volunteered to assist at the shoot. If FPTA
committee members are available a group photo the same day at 10
am will take place.
In the second week of May, a flyer will go out to the
parents, asking for 20 YTL for the Journal. It is
important to collect the money before the printing. Mary
mentioned how the parents in her class (Nursery, new to the
school) often get confused and do not quite understand the
flyers and information sent home, which emphasized the need for
a Parent Handbook. Such a tool would keep the timeline of
dues and events in line for parents’ reference.
Suzanne has the FPTA Constitution organized electronically
and will distribute it for review before the May 31st General
Meeting (7 pm). Committee members should encourage their
class’ parents to attend the meeting. General Meeting is
good opportunity to address the issues, raise questions and
elect the new FPTA Committee. Suzanne is anticipating the
need to elect a new Committee for 2007-2008. If elected, it was
suggested that the new committee should shadow the present FPTA,
for experience.
It was agreed to organize a Jumble Sale on June 9th at 11 am.
Zeldi, Mary and Peter volunteered to help with organizing this
event. A4 size poster will be sent to the parents with the
info: tables will be 5 YTL for children and 10 YTL for adults.
It will be a community event, open to other Embassies and
advertised through the CLO network. Refreshments will be
on sale from the “The Red Lion Club”. At the same time, a
“Daffodil Fund” will be started, collecting money to buy
daffodils bulbs for planting in the school grounds in the
autumn. It was thought that the bulb planting could be a
great way for the new FPTA Committee to socialize in the autumn
term.
The Summer Fair will be held on 23rd of June. The theme
this year is the “Environment”. Subcommittees for F^B,
Games, Health and Safety, are to be organized. Ideas for
games and activities are welcome. Volunteers from all
classes wanted! Steffi asked Dawn about the games played
during “Charity Day”, which was great event for the Student
Council – the list of games could be used and adjusted for the
Summer Fair. Dawn proposed to contact an prominent
environmentalist Jose for possible slide show/presentation on
conservation.
The Teachers’ Appreciation Lunch is to be organized for June
15th.
Reception = deserts
Year 1 = salad
Year 2 = starters and dips
Year 3 = savory
Year 4 = salad
Year 5 = desert
Year 6 = savoury
Class Representatives are asked to arrange two of each of the
suggested dishes for approximately 40 persons. These dishes are
to be delivered to school by 11am.
Sports Day will be on June 27th, FPTA will provide the usual
support with volunteers to help out for Infants in the morning
and Juniors after lunch. The traditional Ice pops will be also
provided.
A.O.B. Dawn presented the Committee with the staff “wish
list” of playground
toys to be purchased. The total cost would be £494.87. The list
was approved by the committee.
