We have had a quiet time at school
this week with a number of families who chose not to
send their children to school in the Early Years. Attendance was better today, with
fewer children absent.
To date, we have only heard of a
total of 2 student cases.
It is normal that this number may continue to increase. The important thing to note is that it is not
increasing at an alarming rate.
At the moment not everyone is being tested for the virus by doctors and hospitals. The current practice is to give a clinical diagnosis. A doctor evaluates the symptoms and decides the likelihood of someone having H1N1.This particular strain has proven to be similar to seasonal flu.
The school has a Pandemic
Influenza Contingency Plan which is on the school website for your information.
There is also a Question and
Answer sheet which may answer some of your
questions concerning BESG response to the H1N1 pandemic.
Continue to talk to your children about respiratory and hand washing hygiene.

P.E. Kit
All children should have a well fitting P.E. Kit in school which includes trainers. P.E. is an important part of the curriculum. Please ensure your child is prepared with the correct sports kit.
Message from School Nurse
In line with the school H1N1 contingency plan, from Monday 26th October we are initiating the People on Board scheme.
Anyone who has travelled outside of Ankara within the last 2 weeks is kindly requested to forward their name and details of travel to me at
kantoine@besg.org.
The aim is to enhance the schools level of vigilance regarding H1N1.
We are also installing hand cleaning stations at the front and back doors of the school. Every visitor who steps into the school will be advised to clean their hands with antibacterial hand gel. This is another step in controlling routes of transmission of H1N1.
Swimming
No swimming until further notice.
Year 3 Assembly
Year 3 Assembly is postponed to 5th November 9am.

School Uniform
We have been reminding the children to tuck in their shirts in a bid to improve the appearance of the children in their school uniform.
Unfortunately a number of children are wearing uniform which is very tight around their waist. This not only does not allow for shirts to be tucked inside but is also extremely uncomfortable for the child.
Some uniform is also very small with trousers also up to their ankles.
Please check your child’s uniform for comfort and fit this weekend.

Many Happy Returns
Pupils with birthdays between the
24th October and 30th October are included in our list
this week.

Year 4 India Celebration Day
Well done to Year 4 Sparrows for celebrating and sharing their learning during their India Celebration Day last Friday. Everyone had a fantastic day that was made all the more enjoyable thanks to our parent helpers and special visitor from the Indian Embassy earlier in the week.
Sparrows dressed up in traditional and contemporary Indian clothes, performed their Traditional-Bollywood Fusion Dance for the rest of Key Stage Two in the morning and enjoyed watching Miss Sibel perform a full traditional dance as well. They made traditional garlands, invited Lakshmi (goddess of prosperity) into the school by making a rangoli at the entrance and ate pakoras, samosas and biryani with their fingers from banana leaves!
Sparrows say, "Shubh Deepawali, everyone! May all your Diwali wishes come true this year!"
