School A to Z Guide

KEY STAGES: The Study Group follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales, which is divided into three stages at primary level:

   Foundation Stage Nursery and Reception
   Key Stage 1 Years 1 & 2
   Key Stage 2 Years 3 to 6

The two main sections of the Study Group (Foundation with KS1 and KS2) each has a co-ordinator in charge. Pupils are assessed at the end of each school year. In Year 6 pupils complete the UK SATs tests, which provide us with a comparison of our standards against all similar age schools in England and Wales.

LUNCH: The Study Group does not provide lunches. Children should bring a packed lunch. Please do not send in fast food e.g. burgers or other hot food. Our school nurse helps with a healthy eating policy and is pleased to advice parents about content of lunches. These are eaten under supervision in the hall. The lunch monitors will try to ensure that children make a good attempt at eating the food provided by you. In return we ask parents to provide lunch they would reasonably expect their child to eat. Filtered water is provided. Any drinks brought into the Study Group should be in unbreakable containers, and must not be in cans.

MEDICINE: If a child requires medication this must be brought to the Study Group nurse. It must be clearly labelled, and be supported either by a written prescription or letter from your doctor. The medicine will be kept in the nurse’s office. The only exception is for such medicines as asthma inhalers.

Please note that the administration of medicine is done on a voluntary basis by the staff, none of whom can accept responsibility for negligence in connection with such administration.

A full health policy is available for parents to read by application to the school office.

MUSIC: In addition to our normal music lessons, the Study Group has provision for peripatetic music at an additional cost. This is provided as an optional extra, and takes place through the school day. Currently we provide teaching for individuals in piano, guitar.
