School A to Z Guide

HOLIDAYS: The BESG follows a standard British three-term year:

   September to Christmas
   Christmas to Easter
   Easter to end of June

Whenever possible, local holidays are also observed and fitted into the pattern of the school year.

The Study Group understands that it may sometimes be difficult for parents to arrange their own leave to coincide with school holidays. If it is necessary for a child to take a holiday during term time, the Head must be informed in advance. Parents choosing to remove their children from the Study Group outside official holidays should be aware:

a) Of the associated disruption to their child’s studies
b) That it is unreasonable to expect the class teacher to provide work during such absence

Remission of fees cannot be given for children taking holidays in term time.

HOMEWORK: This is set as a valuable extension of school learning. Times for homework vary according to age:

Reception and Years 1 & 2 – bring a book home at night
Years 3 & 4 – a variety of work brought home, with approximately 30 minutes per night
Years 5 & 6 – again a variety of work, with approximately 1 hour per night

Homework is not usually set at weekends, except in Years 5 & 6

Parents can help by providing a quiet environment for children to work in, and also by offering their support. Full details of the policy are on the website or can be seen in the school office.
